Fundación MVP Panamá is seeking a Field Coordinator to support daily field operations at Mamoní Valley Preserve, a private conservation area dedicated to biodiversity protection, sustainable land management, and community-based conservation initiatives in eastern Panama.

This is a field-based, hands-on role for an environmental professional who is comfortable working in remote environments and motivated by real operational responsibility in conservation and community programs.

About the role

The Field Coordinator ensures consistent on-site presence at the Preserve and supports the coordination, supervision, and management of daily field operations. The position includes oversight of routine activities, support to the ranger (guardianes) team, logistical coordination, and operational implementation of conservation and community programs, including bamboo management and other field-based initiatives.

The role requires spending most working days on site at the Preserve.

Location & Field Conditions

Mamoní Valley Preserve is located in Chepo, eastern Panama, approximately 1 hour from Panama City, followed by an additional 45-minute off-road drive on unpaved, 4×4-only access roads.

This position involves:

• Staying on site from Monday to Friday as part of the regular work routine
• Occasional weekend presence when hosting visiting groups, scientists, or community activities
• Flexibility to take compensatory time off during the week when weekend work is required
• Comfort working in a remote, rural environment with limited services and infrastructure
• This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy immersive field-based work and are comfortable with non-urban settings.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain regular on-site presence at Mamoní Valley Preserve
• Coordinate, prioritize, and follow up on daily operational activities, projects, and field programs
• Support and accompany the ranger (guardianes) team during patrols and field activities
• Oversee proper use of GPS, GIS-based applications, and drone tools (when applicable)
• Conduct routine field inspections, measurements, and mapping support as needed
• Support logistics and operational planning for visiting scientists, volunteers, and partners
• Execute and follow up on field implementation of conservation and community-based programs, including bamboo management, beekeeping initiatives, school gardens, water monitoring activities, and other operational projects
• Support institutional logistics, including transportation of personnel, materials, and equipment when operationally required
• Maintain clear and proactive communication with Operations and Project Management

Required profile

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Natural Resources, Forestry, Geography, Watershed Management, or related fields.

Experience

• 1–3 years of field-based experience in conservation, environmental management, community projects, or rural development initiatives.
• Field internships, research projects, or structured volunteer programs are acceptable.

Technical skills

• Experience with GPS and field data collection tools
• Familiarity with GIS-based applications
• Drone operation experience (desirable)
• Ability to drive a 4×4 vehicle on off-road terrain
• Functional English for communication with international visitors

• Reliable and self-directed in rural field settings
• Organized and capable of prioritizing operational tasks
• Comfortable staying multiple consecutive days at a remote conservation site
• Adaptable, solution-oriented, and genuinely committed to conservation and community work
