Mamoní Guardians
Guardians are community members whom we hire and train. They conduct regular patrols and inspections, reporting illegal activities throughout the Valley. Using GPS tracking and a smartphone app, they record observations and automate reports.
The Mamoní Valley has historically faced issues like squatting, fencing conflicts, unregulated cattle grazing, illegal logging, unauthorized gold mining, and illegal hunting.
This initiative not only plays a crucial role in safeguarding the natural environment but also provides stable employment for local families, empowering them to actively contribute to the long-term conservation of their own land.
These community guardians undergo comprehensive training to patrol the Preserve effectively. They are equipped with uniforms and essential tools and training in GPS navigation, drone operation, and first aid to ensure their safety. Utilizing advanced technology, they record their patrols and document observations through a smartphone app, which supports automated reporting and facilitates communication with government authorities.
The program’s impact is significant, having already shown a reduction in illegal activities and expanding its coverage to the entire Valley. Through their efforts, the Mamoní Guardians help preserve the ecological balance of the region, ensuring that future generations can experience and appreciate this remarkable natural heritage.
